Useful tips

OmniSolve is feature rich and to gain full use of this product we recommend that you read the online help. The following list highlights useful tips that every user should know about.

Keyboard shortcuts

• TAB key moves to and highlights successive fields for data entry.

• Up Cursor Arrow moves to and highlights the previous field.

• Down Cursor Arrow moves to and highlights the next field.

• Spacebar or ENTER solves for whatever field currently contains the insertion point.

• S key toggles the sign (+/-) of a number.

• N key multiplies the Number of periods field by the payments per year value. This offers a fast mechanism for converting a term expressed in years to one in compounding periods (ie months, quarters etc)

• = Solves a mathematical expression entered in the current field.

• T key enters today's date into the date field in the date calculation form.

• D allows you to enter a date using the date picker in the date calculation form.

Other tips

• Arithmetic can be performed on the field values by using the Copy and Paste commands to move data between the calculator and the OmniSolve forms.

• Holding down the Shift key as you tap the ->M button will add the current number onto the contents of the register.

• Why am I getting the "wrong answer" in the TVM form? - Ensure the appropriate payment mode is set (mortgages and loans are typically end of period). Ensure the number of payments per year is specified correctly. eg Monthly payments:12, Quarterly:4, Yearly:1 Finally check the Interest compounding frequency is set correctly.
